This is a teaching blog — a place to write down, carefully and over time, the things I find worth explaining clearly: credit models, data science in finance, and the math underneath both. Every post aims to do three things: explain the intuition, show the math honestly, and give you something interactive or downloadable so you can try the idea yourself.
The person behind it
Hi, I'm Rodo
I teach a credit models class, and somewhere along the way I understood that teaching isn't something I do — it's closer to who I am. What I chase is the moment an idea clicks for someone: the pause, the raised eyebrows, the "wait… that's it?" This site exists to make more of those moments, one carefully written post at a time.
The other thread that runs through my life is leadership. Ever since I was a kid, I've been the captain of every team I've been part of — my fútbol teams growing up, then tae kwon do, where I earned my black belt, and finally rugby, my last team sport, where I was captain and had the honor of playing for the Mexican national team. Being captain taught me early what I still believe today: you don't lead by being the loudest voice. You lead by caring about the people next to you, holding the standard yourself, and making everyone around you better.
I was formed for over a decade in the Jesuit education system, and I'm proud of how much of it shows in my day to day. If my leadership has a shape, it's the one the Jesuits gave it: rigor with humility, excellence in service of others, and the conviction that a life is measured by what you give.

Off the clock
Outside of work you'll most likely find me outdoors. I ski every chance I get, I'm always up for a round of golf — really, for any plan that happens outside. I read, I love movies, I'm a HiFi audio enthusiast, and I hold equal respect for a well-made hot beverage and a properly mixed cocktail. My favorite place, though, might be behind a grill, cooking for family and friends. And on a quiet day, walking slowly through a museum is my idea of time well spent.
If there's one thing that ties it all together — the teaching, the teams, the mountains, the museums — it's that I love being fascinated. I'm always learning, about everything, and I never want to lose the capacity to be amazed. I try to be fully present in whatever I'm doing and with whoever I'm doing it. I love life, I'm excited to be alive, and I think every ordinary moment deserves to be appreciated. More than anything, that's what I hope comes through in what I write here.
